The practice of determining the geometric properties of objects from photographic images, photogrammetry was developed to reconstruct crash scenes for forensic measurement and further investigation. Crash reconstructionists use photogrammetry to map crash scenes in significantly less time than traditional methods, thereby alleviating congestion which helps to reduce secondary collisions from traffic backups during crash scene investigation. Photogrammetry also allows for much better documentation of a scene for initial and future investigation.
