A third dose of mRNA [Comirnaty (Pfizer) or Moderna] is only approved for people who have moderately to severe immunocompromised conditions, and it’s been 28 days since your last dose. That is available now.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a statement on August 18 saying that a booster shot will be necessary for everyone who received an mRNA vaccine. If the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves a booster dose, the vaccine will be offered in early fall for the general population, eight months after an individual’s second dose of an mRNA vaccine. The Indiana Department of Health is awaiting additional guidance and preparing to administer any approved booster dose as recommended, including immunocompromised individuals.
