Like all vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines are not 100% effective at preventing infection. People who are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations may still get a COVID-19 infection after vaccination. However, COVID-19 vaccination significantly lowers your risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death if you get infected. Compared to people who are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, unvaccinated people are more likely to get COVID-19, much more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19, and much more likely to die from COVID-19.
You should still watch out for symptoms of COVID-19, especially if you’ve been around someone who is sick. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should get tested and stay home and away from others. Check the CDC’s latest isolation guidelines for specific details.
