Anaphylaxis after COVID-19 vaccination is rare but can happen. It has occurred at a rate of approximately 5 cases per one million vaccine doses administered. If you get a COVID-19 vaccine and you think you might be having a severe allergic reaction after leaving the vaccination provider site, seek immediate medical care by calling 911.
Seasonal allergies or food allergies, like allergies to shellfish or peanuts, do not exclude you from getting the COVID-19 vaccine. If you have had an immediate allergic reaction of any severity to any other vaccine or injectable therapy in the past, then you should talk to your healthcare provider before getting vaccinated. If you have had a rash on the arm where you got a COVID-19 shot, have had a non-severe allergic reaction to a COVID-19 shot, or have had a severe allergic reaction to a COVID-19 shot, please see these vaccine recommendations.
