You should file an amended return when there are changes to your income, exemptions, deductions or credits that you reported on your original tax return. This may result in a refund or additional tax due.
If you filed an amended federal tax return (1040X), but you have not yet filed your state tax return, then file your regular state tax return using the updated information.
If you have already filed your state tax return, you need to file an amended (corrected) return using Form IT40X.
If you have additional questions about your specific circumstances, please contact the Department of Revenue.
