Most turtle species are harmless to your farm pond and may in fact be beneficial. The majority of turtle species eat plants primarily but also feed on sick or slow moving fish. Even snapping turtles will primarily eat sick or dead fish over live fish. Turtles are not a threat to your fish population and reducing their numbers generally does nothing to improve fishing. However, if they become a nuisance in your pond, you can reduce their numbers by catching them on a hook and line that is baited with fresh beef, pork, or fish. Remember when taking turtles from public waters to follow all regulations. Refer to the latest fishing guide for the most up to date regulations.
