Constitutionally, the lieutenant governor serves as the president of the Indiana Senate. In addition, the lieutenant governor is charged with assuming the role of governor if the sitting governor becomes unable to fulfill the duties of office or if the office falls vacant due to death.
Statutorily, the lieutenant governor oversees four state agencies including the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), and Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC).
Additionally, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch chairs the Roundtable on Mental Health, the Intellectual and Development Disabilities Task Force, INvets and the Civics Education Commission.
