The Indiana State Archives collects state and local government records determined to be of historical significance. Records must be approved for State Archives transfer in a relevant records retention schedule for State (https://www.in.gov/iara/divisions/records-management/state-records-management/state-retention-schedules/) or County/Local (https://www.in.gov/iara/divisions/records-management/countylocal-records-management/countylocal-retention-schedules) government entities.
Once records are transferred to the State Archives, title to the records is permanently transferred to the Indiana Archives and Records Administration.
Detailed instructions for transferring records (https://www.in.gov/iara/services-for-government/transferring-records-to-state-archives/) are available on the State Archives web page. The associated State Archives Record Transmittal and Receipt Form (SF 48883) is available online in PDF and MS Word formats (https://www.in.gov/iara/services-for-government/iara-forms/). For more information, call 317-591-5222 or email arc@iara.in.gov.
