A monovalent Novavax booster is available for people 18 and older who completed a primary series, have not received any previous booster dose(s), and are unable or unwilling to receive an mRNA vaccine and would otherwise not receive a booster dose. The CDC recommends people receive an age-appropriate, updated mRNA booster dose when eligible, but the Novavax booster is available in limited situations.
Some people may be unable to receive an mRNA vaccine as a result of an allergy to a component of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, or as a result of a history of a severe allergic reaction (such as anaphylaxis) after a previous dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. People 18 and older may also choose to receive a Novavax monovalent booster if they are unwilling to receive mRNA vaccines, and would otherwise not receive a booster dose. Please talk to your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns before getting vaccinated.
